Full-time master's and doctoral degrees in any subject offered at Stanford University (but not limited to, DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or PhD) with some exceptions:
• Cooperative program applicants with honors
• Applicants for a Master of Arts degree
• Applicants to Doctor of Laws (JSD)
• Current Stanford University students applying for joint graduate studies
• Current PhD students at Stanford University adding a master's or master's degree in their current major.
Stanford University Scholarship Worth
Knight-Hennessy Scholars receive funding for up to three years for any graduate degree(s) at Stanford University. During each of the first three years of graduate study, Knight-Hennessy Scholars receive:
• Fellowship offered directly to cover tuition and associated fees for a Stanford University scholarship
A stipend to cover living and academic expenses (such as room and board, books, academic supplies, teaching materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses)
• A travel grant designed to cover an economy class ticket for one annual trip to and from Stanford.
Additional Year Specific Funding at Stanford University
• Newly enrolled students receive a one-time transfer stipend with the aim of offsetting some of the costs associated with moving to the district and/or purchasing technology
• Scholars in their second and third year may apply for supplemental funds to support academic enrichment activities (eg, conference travel).
Eligibility Requirements for Stanford University Scholarship
There are two basic eligibility requirements.
First, in addition to applying to Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS), you must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a full-time graduate degree program at Stanford University including, but not limited to, DMA, JD, MA, MBA MD, MFA, MPP, MS or PhD programmes. You must meet at least one of the following four conditions:
You are applying separately but simultaneously to KHS and a full-time graduate degree program at Stanford University starting both in the same year.
You have already been offered admission and deferred admission to the full-time graduate degree program at Stanford University, and you will apply to KHS commencing both in the same year.
Stanford University Scholarship You are a current graduate student at Stanford University and will be applying to add a second full-time graduate program from Stanford University, beginning both KHS and the new program in the same year. You are a current PhD student at Stanford University in your first year of enrollment, and you will apply to KHS so that you start KHS in the second year of your PhD entry.
Second, you must have obtained, in January 2016 or later, a U.S. bachelor's degree or equivalent from a college or university of recognized standing. To apply to join the group in 2023, you must have obtained a bachelor’s degree by January 2016 or later; To apply to join the group in 2024, you must have obtained a bachelor's degree by January 2017 or later.
Applying for a Stanford Scholarship
To be considered for the scholarship, you must apply separately and concurrently to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program and Stanford University Graduate Degree Program. The Knight Hennesy deadline is October 12, 2022, at 1:00 PM PST. The application deadline for Stanford University's graduate degree program varies by program. You should check the required program website to confirm the application deadline for your program which is usually earlier.
